OUR
CAMPAIGN

Think Infrared Defence campaign

“I’m an ‘English rose’ with very fair skin, but thanks to my parents, I have always been very careful to protect myself and my family in the sun. I consider myself really quite sun aware, especially since becoming a mum myself, but I was shocked to hear that standard sun creams don’t protect us against Infrared-A, which make up a third of the sun’s rays.

I also couldn’t believe it when I heard that 90% of lines and wrinkles on a person’s face are the result of light and sun exposure, so by wearing a quality sun cream we can dramatically reduce the rate at which our skin ages. Skin cancer is also the fastest growing cancer in the UK, so it really is important that people invest in the best protection for their skin.

A few years ago I experienced this first-hand – I have a lot of moles and had to have a mole removed from my shoulder and I still have a scar today. Thankfully it did turn out to be benign, so the removal was just a precaution, but it has made me extremely conscious of how damaging the sun can be.

So Think Infrared Defence this summer and look for a sun screen that protects you against Infrared-A, as well as UV- A and UV-B.”

“This campaign is about raising public awareness around the relatively unknown threat of Infrared-A. Research shows that only one fifth of people in this country are even aware that Infrared-A is a form of radiation from the sun, which means that people simply don’t realise that they are not protecting their skin from all of the sun’s damaging rays.”
